Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a new program? Are there dorms? What about academics?
Grace Performing Arts Academy first opened its doors in September 2007 for the 2007-2008 school year. We also have summer housing options at an additional cost. We provide a safe and supportive residence and academic are also available if needed by the student. The tuition for the academic program is separate from the cost of the residence hall. Either one or both parts of the program are available to students ages 14-20 years old.
Is Grace Performing Arts Academy a private school?
No, GPAA is not a school. We provide credit courses using distance learning programs such as Keystone National High School or can support students already enrolled in a similar program with tutoring, structured study halls, and proctoring exams.
How big is GPAA?
GPAA enrolled ten students for the 2007-2008 school year. This small community allowed us to provide a warm and friendly environment.
What staff are available at GPAA?
There is at least one Resident Advisor available on a 24 hour basis and on site overnight. There are tutors available for structured studies and one on one or small group tutoring.
Is GPAA a co-ed program?
Yes, both male and female students attend GPAA. There are separate floors and bathrooms for boys and girls and there are rules regarding visiting and socializing.
What kind of rules/discipline are in place?
There is a Resident Handbook with rules and responsibilities given to each student and parent upon acceptance into the program. Curfews and rules regarding use of drugs and alcohol as well as policies regarding visitors and overnight absences are clearly defined in this handbook.
Does my child need to be a motivated learner who can do a great deal of work independently in order to be successful in the academic program?
Yes. Although support services are available the student needs to be an independent learner and dependable in completing assignments in order to be successful in this kind of academic program. There will be less group structure and more creative and independent learning fit around a demanding training schedule.
How can I decide if this program is appropriate for my child’s specific needs?
We would be happy to discuss specific parent/student concerns and answer any questions. Please contact us.
